Chocolate Peanut Butter Cookies

1 cup sifted all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/4 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon shortening

1 cup sugar

1 egg

1/2 cup peanut butter

1 square (1 ounce) baking chocolate, melted

1/4 cup milk

1 cup semisweet chocolate chips, optional

Wash hands. Heat oven to 375 degrees. Grease baking sheet.

Sift together flour, baking powder, soda and salt. Beat together shortening, sugar and egg; then stir in peanut butter and melted baking chocolate.

Gradually stir in flour mixture, alternately with milk.

Add chocolate chips.

Drop from teaspoon onto greased baking sheet and bake about 15 minutes. Remove from oven and let cool on wire rack.

Yields 2 dozen cookies.
