How to Make a Bread Machine Mix

A supply of quart-size, self-sealing bags and you are ready to start making mixes.

Some stick-on notes or labels or adhesive labels to write instructions on.

Note: Once the mixes are prepared you’ll need to store them in a cool, dry, dark place.

Measure into the quart bag:
1 1/2 C. bread or all-purpose flour*
1/2 C. coarse-ground rye flour
1 T. wheat germ (or 2 T. graham flour)
2 T. gluten*
1 1/2 t. salt
1 1/2 T. brown sugar**

*If you use bread flour, omit the gluten.

**Or leave out the brown sugar and note that you must add 1 1/2 T. honey on the label.

Stir all of this with spoon or spatula. Or just shake it around to mix. Then add another:
1 C. white flour

Write the following on the label: “Put into the bread pan of the bread machine 1 C. water, 1 1/2 T. shortening (olive oil or lard), then the bread mix 2 t. yeast and start”.
