Favorite Coffeecake

3 cups flour

1/2 teaspoon salt

2 cups sugar

1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

1/2 teaspoon ground cloves

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

1/4 cup shortening

2 cups buttermilk

2 teaspoons baking soda

Mix together the first six ingredients. Then add the shortening and mix well. Add buttermilk with soda. Blend well.

Pour into greased and floured 9- by 13- by 2-inch pan.
