Da's Sweet Salad

Good cooks and bakers are not easily impressed. So imagine my surprise when I was able to impress the best of all cooks and bakers, my dear Grandmother.   Many years ago, I had her for lunch and fixed this sweet salad. She loved it. Simple to make, not taking long to set up, and especially not expensive to make, it became her salad. She fixed it for every holiday meal and every occasion she had family or friends for lunch or dinner. It continues to this day to be part of every family gathering. 'Da' always made a red flavored salad, but what ever gelatin flavor, what makes it special and delicious is how much this simple sweet salad reminds of all of her, our dearest Grandma DA, cook and baker extraordinaire. Strangely, this sweet salad or something similar appears on many a restaurant buffet today.
