Old Fashioned Pound Cake Ring
3 C Sifted cake flour
2 tsp Baking powder
pinch of Salt
1/2 tsp Ground mace or cinnamon
1 C Soft unsalted butter
1 1/2 C Superfine sugar
3 Eggs
1/2 C Milk
1 tsp Brandy or vanilla extract
Confectioner's sugar
Red vegetable coloring
Granulated sugar
Sift together 3 times the flour, baking powder, salt and mace or cinnamon.
With the electric mixer set at medium speed, cream together
the butter, superfine sugar and eggs until light and fluffy, about 4 minutes.
Blend in the sifted flour mixture by hand, alternating with
the milk mixed with the brandy or vanilla. Beat after each addition.
Pour into a well-greased 2-quart ring mold 11 inches across.
Bake in a preheated 350 degree F. oven for 50-60 minutes before unmolding.
Loosen with a knife and remove from the pan. Cool.
Dust with confectioner's sugar.
Make red sugar by adding a few drops of red vegetable
coloring to granulated sugar and rubbing with the back of a spoon until the
sugar is colored. Sprinkle the red sugar over the top.
