1 recipe Basic Pizza Dough, rolled into a 1/4 inch thick
2 T. vegetable oil
3 slices bacon, chopped
1 onion, finely chopped
1 carrot, finely chopped
1 stalk celery, finely chopped
1 clove garlic, crushed
1/2 lb. lean ground beef
1 tbsp tomato paste
1/4 t. dried mixed herbs
1/2 C. beef stock
salt and pepper
1/2 C. grated mozzarella cheese
freshly grated parmesan cheese
In a saucepan, heat oil; add bacon. Cook 2 minutes. Add onion, carrot, celery
and garlic. Cook, stirring, until soft.
Add ground beef and cook, stirring until brown. Drain off fat.
Stir in tomato paste, mixed herbs and stock; season to taste with salt and
pepper. Cover and simmer 30 minutes, until the beef is cooked. Leave to cool a
Preheat oven to 425° F. Spoon sauce on top of the pizza dough. Sprinkle
the mozzarella cheese on top.
Bake 20 minutes until crust is crisp and cheese is melted and slightly golden.
Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese. Cut into slices and serve.
